HOW TO BECOME A RESIDENTIAL MORTGAGE LOAN ORIGINATOR
This is for NEWBIES only (never been licensed before) *You must complete the course and pass the test by April 2nd 2010
Step 1 Log onto the NMLS website at www.stateregulatoryregistry.org/NMLS. You must create an account. Once you have created an account you will be assigned a user name and password.
Step 2 Register and take the required courses/classes in order to become licensed at Spencer Training and Testing Development, Inc. (You will need to call SML and ask which course you are required to take as each individual is different - SML 877-276-5550.
Step 3 Take the exam preparation course to prepare you to take the state and national portions of the test.
Step 4 Register for the state and national exam at an authorized Pearson Vue Site. Please be advised that you must pass the test with at least a 75% score. If you fail the exam you must wait 30 days to retake the exam.
Step 5 After you have successfully passed both exams you must register through NMLS at www.stateregulatoryregistry.org and print off a MU4 form (this form must be completed and filed with NMLS)
Step 6 Register with Texas Savings and Mortgage Lending (SML) at www.sml.state.tx.us
Step 7 You must be fingerprinted and a background check completed along with a credit report in order to complete the process. You can register to have your fingerprints and background check done through Spencer Training and Testing Development, Inc. at www.spencertesting.com
Step 8 Find a sponsoring entity. Ask one of our counselors we can supply you with a list of sponsors'. Remember you can not practice until you have become licensed as an RMLO (Residential Mortgage Loan Originator).
